This Conference is organized on the occasion of the International Literacy Day, 8 September.
More than 20 translators of Harry Potter and publishing houses involved in the so-called « Harry Potter Phenomenon » get together to discuss the role of translations and translators in cross-cultural communication and dialogue, using « Harry Potter Phenomenon » as a case study.
The participants discuss the following issues:
- Impact of Harry Potter on literacy and reading of children;
- Cultural and linguistic challenges of translation in the context of globalization;
- Factors contributing to the success of the Harry Potter;
- International cooperation to help promote literacy through translation into/from minor languages.
The meeting takes place under the patronage of UNESCO, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris, the Permanent Delegation of Japan to UNESCO, the National Commission of Japan for UNESCO and the Simone et Cino del Duca Foundation of the Institut de France.
Simone et Cino del Duca Foundation hosts the conference.
