Threats of impoverishment and merchandisation of cultural expressions make Regions (local and regional authorities, autonomous powers and regional integration entities) implement strategical means (ranging from the exacerbation of differences to the quest for an assumed share of diversity) to preserve their identities and heritage. This section gives a wide selection of official documents, press articles and analytical essays that explore the way regions deal with such cultural issues. What alternative models of development or integration can regions propose, instead of the global market ones ? To what extent do regions seize the opportunities given by the UNESCO Convention on cultural diversity that entered into force on 18 March 2007.

Angry Artists Respond to Attacks With Protest in Front of Ministry of Culture

Today, a sit-in was called in front of the Ministry of Culture, following the vandalism of artwork in Printemps des Arts Fair. This follows yesterday's declarations by Minister of Culture Mehdi Mabrouk, who denounced some of the artworks on display as being blasphemous.
