New data released by the European Commission has shown that there were 15,846 registered victims of people trafficking in the European Union in 2013-2014, with at least 15 percent of them children. The Commission's report also says that "there are solid grounds to believe that the actual numbers of victims of trafficking in the EU are substantially higher".
The Netherlands had 1,561 registered victims in 2013-2014, the most in the EU. The UK followed with 1,358 while Romania came third with 757. Europe's migrant crisis has given trafficking gangs countless opportunities for exploitation and the grim trade generates billions for criminals every year.
