Forests cover 30% of the Earth's land, but despite efforts to protect them, since 1990, we've lost 1.2 million square kilometers — an area the size of South Africa. Between 1990 and 2015, Latin America and Africa lost an average of 11% of their forest area, while Europe and Asia gained 2%.
