Dominique Baudis, former President of the Arab World Institute (Paris) and French Défenseur des Droits (ombudsman); Antoine Basbous, Director of the Observatoire des Pays Arabes (OPA); François Heisbourg, Chairman of The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS); Mahmoud Hussein, Egyptian author and political scientist ; Labib Al Sebai, journalist and former CEO of Egypt’s Al-Ahram publishing company; and Robert Solé, French writer of Egyptian origin are among the participants scheduled to attend the forum.
They will analyse developments over the past year and their impact on politics, society, culture and education.
Members of the public are invited to follow the forum and interact with its participants via Twitter (@UNESCONow, @UNESCOarabic).
The forum will be followed by a number of events organized by Egypt’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and the country’s Embassy to France. Among them will be a concert by the Inchad group of 34 artists who took part in the Egyptian revolution (Salle I, 7 p.m.). With Arab and Coptic songs from the classical, folk and Sufi repertoirs, Inchad will trace the history of Egypt from the time of the Pharaohs to the present in a programme that will include songs sung on Tahrir Square, some of them created there, in January 2011.
The day will also feature the opening of a multimedia art exhibition entitled “Eighteen Days of Action”, (Miro Room, 25 to 27 January). The exhibition focuses on the 18-day-long revolution with videos, photographs, 3-D slide shows as well as paintings and graffiti by Egyptian artists.
