Six new dynamics are transforming the landscape of higher education said UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Education Nicholas Burnett at the opening of an international conference organized by OECD's Centre for Educational Research and Innovation on 8 and 9 December. Mr Burnett made reference to :
- demand,
- diversification,
- networking,
- lifelong learning,
- ICTs and
- social responsibility as dynamics at work.
He emphasized the need for policies that promote inclusion and quality at all levels of the education system.
The Conference, entitled "Higher Education to 2030: What futures for Quality Access in the Era of Globalisation?" is part of a research project that will include a book series looking at forces shaping higher education.
The first volume focusing on demographics was launched at the Conference.
UNESCO is organizing a World Conference on Higher Education in July 2009.
