The main purpose of the conference is to elaborate a general approach to UNESCO’s various conventions for the protection of cultural heritage and promotion of cultural diversity in the CIS countries and to discuss the means of including the fundamental principles of UNESCO’s conventions.
Primarily, the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972), the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) in the national legislations in the field of culture. The programme will include consultative discussions of experts on the implementation and dissemination of UNESCO’s Conventions of 1954 (Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and two Protocols), 1970 (Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Cultural Property), 2001 (Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage).
The conference is held in partnership with the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of the CIS, theNational Commission for UNESCO of Belarus, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Institute for Cultural Problems, the Institute for State and Legislation of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus and with participation of parliamentarians and experts in the field of culture and protection of cultural heritage from the CIS countries.
