A Eslovénia prestes a adoptar o euro


Dentro de alguns dias, o euro passará a ser a moeda de curso legal da Eslovénia em vez do tolar. No dia 1 de Janeiro de 2007, a Eslovénia, que cumpriu os critérios requeridos, poderá aderir à zona do euro que conta com doze membros.

A Eslovénia é o primeiro dos dez países que aderiram à União Europeia em 1 Maio de 2004 a adoptar o euro. No passado mês de Junho, os líderes europeus consideraram que a Eslovénia respeitava os critérios para a entrada na zona do euro em termos de dívida pública, défice orçamental, taxas de juros e inflação.

Nas duas primeiras semanas de 2007, os eslovenos poderão pagar tanto com notas e moedas de euro como de tolar, mas o período de circulação em simultâneo das duas moedas terminará em 14 de Janeiro. Os bancos aceitam tolares até finais de Fevereiro. A taxa de conversão sem comissões bancárias é de 1 euro = 239,64 tolares eslovenos.

Os cidadãos eslovenos são globalmente a favor do euro. As sondagens revelam que mais de um terço dos eslovenos pensam que a introdução do euro lhes será favorável, embora mais de um quarto continue a pensar o contrário. O que preocupa principalmente os cidadãos são o aumento dos preços, os arredondamentos abusivos e uma queda do poder de compra.

Em Novembro passado, a Comissão sublinhou que, apesar dos progressos realizados desde Junho de 2006, a Eslovénia tem de conquistar a confiança do consumidor, explicando﷓lhe que a taxa de conversão será respeitada e que o período de transição não será utilizado abusivamente para aumentar os preços.

O Relatório de Convergência de 2006, uma análise bianual sobre os progressos realizados no cumprimento dos critérios para a adopção do euro, mostra um progresso reticente na República Checa, Estónia, Chipre, Letónia, Hungria, Malta, Polónia, Eslováquia e Suécia. A Lituânia cumpriu todos os critérios de convergência com excepção da inflação que constitui o único obstáculo à adopção do euro nesse país.
