Vandana Shiva is an indian alter-globalist figure, known for her anti-GMOs positions and her campaigns against genetic engineering. In her books, she warns of the risks of "biopiracy", ie plundering of natural resources by agro-chemical companies. She founded in 1987 “Navdanya”, a NGO involved in defense of traditionnal agriculture. In 1993, she received the Right Livelihood Award (also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize).
