How does support to the farming sectors of Brazil, China, India and South Africa compare with the agricultural policies adopted in OECD countries? What roles do these policies play in reducing rural poverty and inequality? Senior food and agriculture officials from these rapidly-evolving economies and their counterparts from OECD countries will be tackling such questions when they meet for an unprecedented series of talks on domestic and trade policy issues on 14 and 15 June in Paris.
The meeting aims to provide an assessment of the challenges facing the food and agriculture sectors of these four increasingly important players in the global trading system and to improve cooperation with OECD countries.
Two press events related to the discussions are planned at OECD headquarters, 19 rue Franqueville, Paris 75016:
- Chair of the talks, former EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler, will hold a news conference on the outcome of the meeting at 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday 15 June, 2005. Officials from the OECD and from the participating countries will also attend.
- A separate press briefing on the food and agriculture sectors in China, Brazil, India and South Africa, presented by officials from OECD and non-OECD countries, will take place ahead of the High Level Meeting, at 9.00 a.m. on Monday 13 June, 2005.
For further information or to register for either of the briefings, journalists are invited to contact the OECD’s Media Relations Division
