The 9 August 2004 Commemoration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues DSPD/DESA, the United Nations Department of Public Information and the NGO Committee on the International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is officially commemorated on 9 August annually in recognition of the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva.
Additional Programs in Commemoration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples will take place at the American Museum of Natural History on 8 August, 2003.
"Womens Wishes for the Earth" (Rebecca Sommer, 2004) will be shown in its entirety throughout the day in the exhibition area of "Celebrating Indigenous Peoples" in the United Nations Visitor's Lobby.
